MT Suffers Road Loss at UTSA
5/6/2017 6:37:00 PM | Baseball
Aaron Aucker extended his hitting streak to 18 games
The Blue Raiders (20-26, 7-16) and the Roadrunners (24-21, 12-11) each amassed 12 hits in the game.
"We have to dig down deep and find a way to win," said Head Coach Jim McGuire. "We've got ourselves in a hole and we have to get this thing turned around before it gets too late in the season."
Drew Huff crushed just his third homer of the year in the second inning putting MT on the board, part of his 2-for-5 day and cutting the UTSA lead to 2-1 in the second.
The Roadrunners bounced back with another nine runs over the next two innings going up 10-1 after three.
Middle Tennessee showed life in the fourth, putting up five runs on five hits. Huff was the spark again, starting the frame off with a single. Blake Benefield followed him up with a single of his own. After a Riley Delgado walk, Brad Jarreau roped an RBI-single scoring two runs.
Aaron Aucker extended his hitting streak to 18-games knocking a two-run RBI single to left field. Another run scored on a wild pitch. MT pulled with four runs, down 10-6 going to the home-half of the inning.
The Blue Raiders could not slow down the Roadrunner offense, allowing UTSA to score three more in the fourth, to go up 13-6.
Aucker extended his reached base streak to 28 games going 1-of-3 with two RBI and two walks.
Kaleb King and Benefield finished the game 2-of-5, while Jarreau went 3-of-5.
Starting pitcher Cody Puckett (2-4) was tagged with loss.
UTSA reliever Karl Craigie (6-0) earned the win.
Series finale tomorrow at noon.
