One of only eight nominees from C-USA
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee announced Wednesday that Blue Raider golfer Samantha Gotcher is the school's nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
The prestigious award is granted on four pillars of student-athlete excellence – academics, athletics, service and leadership. The NCAA Woman of the Year award garnered 544 nominees, including 229 Division I athletes.
The four-year Blue Raider stepped in the lineup in her first fall on campus and improved steadily throughout her career. Her illustrious career includes a stop at the U.S. Women's Open and two Conference USA team titles and NCAA Regional appearances.
A Clarksville, Tennessee, native, Gotcher was named to the All-C-USA Tournament Team in 2016 after she helped the Blue Raiders hoist a conference championship trophy. She was also named to the First Team All-C-USA list after her junior season and carried that momentum into her final season in Murfreesboro.
Gotcher led the Blue Raiders in three of the five fall tournaments in her senior season and played in all 10 events on the year, finishing with a team-best 75.0 stroke average to earn Third Team All-C-USA honors.
Gotcher's impressive career at MT includes recognition for her high performance in the classroom as well. The four-year standout has been named a WGCA All-American Scholar and C-USA Academic Medal Winner every year of her career while twice being voted to the C-USA All-Academic Team.
Her community service record is every bit as exemplary as her academic and athletic record as the community-oriented student-athlete spends large amounts of her free time giving back in Murfreesboro as well as her hometown of Clarksville. Some of the organizations she enjoys working with include High Hopes Child Development Center, GREAT Summer Camp, the Clarksville Junior Golf Tour, Camp Grove, and Experience Community Church.
In April 2017, Gotcher was awarded the Female True Blue President's Award at the Raiders Choice Awards, which is the top honor given to a female Blue Raider every season. With her collegiate golfing career now complete, she intends to pursue either a doctorate degree in audiology or a master's degree in deaf education.
Gotcher is one of 16 nominees nationally who played golf, just nine of which were Division I golfers. She is also one of just eight nominees from C-USA and the only C-USA golfer nominated.
The Woman of the Year program was founded in 1991 and saw the highest number of nominees in its history this year, its 27th of existence.
