MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee junior outfielder Precious Birdsong was named one of the 14 Conference USA student-athletes to receive the Spring Spirit of Service award, C-USA Commissioner Judy MacLeod announced.
The award is designed to recognize the league's student-athletes who contribute to the community through service project efforts, are in good academic standing and through participation in their respective sport.
The award is presented three times each season, providing each conference member three representatives throughout the year. Today's recipients represent athletes playing in spring sports: baseball, golf, softball, tennis, beach volleyball and outdoor track & field.
Birdsong had a record-setting season this year for the Blue Raiders, setting a new single season batting average record with .443. She also broke the school career marks in triples (10) and stolen bases (101), on her way to being named an All-C-USA First Team selection and an NFCA Mideast All-Region First Team member.
Off the field, Birdsong spends time at the Boys & Girls Club, her alma mater of the Baylor School and Connect Sports helping kids stay active. She also serves as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and volunteers her time within the Middle Tennessee community helping with the Special Olympics, canned food drives, campus clean-ups and blood drives.
A sport, leisure and tourism studies major, Birdsong has been a member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of her first three years as a Blue Raider. This past academic year, she also earned a spot on the Dean's List.
