Duo earns Second Team All-American in 800-meter
EUGENE, Ore. — For the second time in as many days, a pair of Blue Raiders wrapped their 2017 outdoor season with All-American efforts at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Duo Abike Egbeniyi and Agnes Abu capped a stellar outdoor campaign in the women's 800-meter run, earning Second Team All-American honors with top 15 finishes at Hayward Field.
Egbeniyi clocked a time of 2:05.94 in the first heat, while teammate Abu ran a 2:06.21 in heat number three.
The duo enjoyed a successful year on the track in the event.
Egbeniyi grabbed a pair of first-place finishes at Tennessee's Rust Buster and the Tennessee Relays, and placed in the top 8 in all seven races prior to Thursday's race in Eugene. The Nigeria native also set the school record two weeks ago at the NCAA East Regional with a time of 2:02.34.
Abu took first at the C-USA Championships and placed in the top 10 in all six 800-meter races preceding the NCAA semifinals. Her title at the C-USA Championships marked her seventh conference crown throughout her Blue Raider career. The Ghana native was also tabbed to the C-USA All-Academic team last month.
The Blue Raiders return to the track Friday as Jacob Choge eyes a national title in the men's 5000-meter run Friday at 9:25 p.m.
Elizabeth Dadzie will also begin the women's heptathlon Friday. The senior will compete in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter dash, before complete the remaining three multi events Saturday.
The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will continue its broadcast Friday on the ESPN family of networks. For complete coverage and broadcast details, visit http://www.ncaa.com/championships/trackfield-outdoor/d1/broadcast-info.
