MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After two tough losses the Middle Tennessee women's soccer team goes back on the road Friday looking for its first win of the 2017 season at Jacksonville State.
The Blue Raiders and Gamecocks are set to kick off at 7 p.m. in Jacksonville, Ala., at the JSU Soccer Complex. The two sides have met 11 times with MT holding the 7-3-1 all-time advantage. Middle has shutout the Gamecocks in the last four meeting's including last season's 1-0 win.
JSU enters the contest with a 1-1 record, falling to Alabama, 5-1, to open the season before picking up a 3-1 win over Alabama State last Sunday. Retuning junior MF Claire Petersen leads the Gamecocks in points this season with three, recording a goal and an assist in the win against ASU. The Gamecocks also return senior GK Caroline Robinson who ranks among JSU's all-time leaders in career saves and shutouts.
MT will turn to Charlotte Van Ishoven and Peyton DePriest for scoring options. Van Ishoven leads the team in shots with eight while DePriest leads the squad in goals with two. Casey Riemer, Kerri Cook, and Sydney Navarro anchor a Blue Raider defense that was able to blank JSU last season and will look to do so again.
"To win this weekend, we need to improve our defensive efforts and not give up those goals like we have," said Head Coach Aston Rhoden. "We also need to make sure we finish on our opportunities in front of the net."
