NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team fell in three sets to No. 24 Arizona at the Allen Arena on Sunday morning.
The Blue Raiders (0-4) opened the first set with an early 0-2 lead over the Wildcats (3-1). However, Arizona responded with a 9-1 run sparked by a kill from AU freshman, Paige Whipple. MT was unable to recover from a strong Wildcat offense to drop the first set, 25-13. In the second frame, the Wildcats built an early lead (5-3) before the Blue Raiders battled back to a 23-16 edge. However, Arizona took the second set, 25-18, with a kill from senior Jade Turner. In the third and final frame, Arizona clenched the match with a 25-7 edge over MT.
Freshman Josie Maxim posted three of the 21 Blue raider kills in the match hitting at a .333 clip. Meanwhile, junior Regan Coughlin chipped in with seven kills and four digs.
Defensively, libero Brienna Tankesley paced the Blue Raiders with 13 digs. In total, Middle Tennessee posted 28 digs while Arizona tallied 35. The Wildcats also registered a 38-21 edge in kills on the night.
Junior Makila York racked up five kills while sophomore Dora Peonia tallied four.
Setter, Taylor Hammill produced all 20 assists for Middle Tennessee while registering her first solo block of the season.
