NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team opened the Bruins Showcase falling in three set matches to both Idaho State and UT Arlington.
The Bengals came out strong in the first two sets to build sturdy leads that MT was unable to recover from (25-17, 25-9). In the third and final set, the Blue Raiders fought hard to tie the set (16-16) with a service ace from senior Sloan Sullivan. However, MT was unable to recover from a 7-2 Idaho State run to fall in the final frame, 25-20.
In the second match of the day, the Blue Raiders remained competitive in the first set before dropping the first frame to the Mavericks, 25-14. UT Arlington opened the second frame building a 17-7 lead over the Blue Raiders. However, MT battled back with a 10-5 run, sparked by a kill from junior Makila York to close the Maverick lead to three (23-20). The Blue Raiders came up short in the second frame, dropping the set to UTA, 25-23. In the third frame, UT Arlington began the set with a 7-5 edge over MT. However, Middle Tennessee fought back with back-to-back kills from York and redshirt-junior Vonnie Covington to take the first lead of the match over UTA, 13-11. After six lead changes, the Blue Raiders were unable to recover from the Maverick offense, to drop the final set, 25-23.

Sophomore setter Taylor Hammill recorded 20 assists and two kills in the contest against Idaho State.
Top Performers vs. UT Arlington

Quotable
"At the end of the third set of the second match, I feel like (to win) it's a matter of swinging with confidence and knowing that it is okay to make a mistake as long as they are being aggressive. In the second match, Regan was able to rack up 32 attempts and 15 kills with only one error and not one time was she passive. In the first match, she (Coughlin) was extremely passive and the stats showed it, she did not have many kills and she accumulated a lot of errors. How she bounced back in the match against UTA—that's an example how one player can make a mental change to be aggressive and succeed". – Head Coach, Chuck Crawford
