Led Raiders to big win over Syracuse
MURFREESBORO – Conference USA announced Player of the Week winners on Monday and Middle Tennessee's Brent Stockstill and Khalil Brooks were honored. Stockstill was the co-Offensive Player of the Week and Brooks brought home the defensive award. It's the third career honor for Stockstill and the first for Brooks.
Stockstill rallied Middle Tennessee to a road upset of ACC-member Syracuse with three second-half touchdowns, finishing the game 22-of-36 for 269 yards. Stockstill was outstanding in the clutch, completing 11-of-14 passes for 193 yards during the second-half comeback. Those numbers included 5-for-5 passing for 95 yards in the fourth quarter with two TD passes, including the game-winner with 6:46 remaining. He extended his streak for consecutive games with a touchdown pass to 18, which ranks second-longest in the country. Stockstill also had two punts for a 45.0 yard average with both downed inside the 10-yard line.
Brooks registered a career-high and game-high eight tackles in the win at Syracuse. He was in on four tackles for loss, collecting one solo stop and assisting on three others. Brooks played part in two of Middle Tennessee's six sacks, with one solo and an assist on another, leading a defense that limited Syracuse's high-octane offense to just 308 yards of total offense. He keyed a defensive surge that allowed just one touchdown in each half of the road victory.
It marks the 68th and 69th conference player of the week winners under Rick Stockstill with 20 coming from C-USA and 49 from the Sun Belt. Overall, 22 have been on offense, 26 on defense and 21 on special teams.
