MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Coming off an exciting home win last weekend, the Middle Tennessee women's soccer team looks to keep the momentum going as they host two games this weekend. The Raiders are set to play Kennesaw State on Friday at 7 p.m. and Evansville on Sunday at 5 p.m., both in the Dean A. Hayes Stadium.
Middle and Kennesaw will meet for the first time in program history, in a game that counts anyways. The two sides played in an exhibition match prior to the start of the last season. The Owls won that preseason battle, 3-2.
The Raiders and Evansville are playing for just the fifth time. MT leads the all-time meetings 3-1 while also having won the first three contests between the two sides. The last time the two teams met was in 2010 in which the Aces won 2-1 in Murfreesboro.
The Owls enter the match with a 5-1-2 record, defeating Georgia State, Mercer, Morehead State, Samford and UNC Asheville. Ashtah Das leads KSU in points with eight, notching three goals and two assists. Abby Roth and Isabella Contreras were named ASUN Preseason All-Conference team members and Roth along with Tiffany Sornpao have already earned ASUN Conference Defender of the week honors. Roth has two goals on the season while Sornpao has played six games as the goalkeeper. Sornapo has allowed only three goals in the stretch, recording 32 saves and five shutouts.
The Aces have a .500, 4-4, record entering their weekend of action. Evansville will first host Saint Louis on Friday night before making their way to Murfreesboro. The Aces finished second in the Missouri Valley Conference a year ago, and were tabbed to finish fourth in the conference this season. Montana Portenier leads the team in points, with six, recording two goals and two assists so far this season. Sara Osinski and Nicki Baham have also scored two goals. Michaela Till has played all but 29 minutes in goal for the Aces this year, recording 23 saves and a shutout.
The Raiders are now 1-4 on the year entering the weekend, coming off a 2-0 win over UIC. Freshman Peyton DePriest notched her third goal of the year in the win while Sam DeBien picked up her first score. Amber Hoot and Casey Riemer also picked up points from the win, each recording an assist. Sydney Chalcraft logged her first clean sheet of the year, pushing her save total to 21.
The games will be live streamed on C-USA TV.
