MT Travels North for Robert Morris Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team travels to Moon, Pa. for the Robert Morris Invitational on Friday and Saturday in the Sewall Center.

"Even with our great success this past weekend, we still have work to do," said assistant coach Stephanie Zielinski. "We are always growing and we are always moving forward, it was nice to see some progress and to see our growth, in that, we can physically see in the outcome for what we do everyday and how hard we work. I am excited to compete against Rutgers and see my former coach CJ. With the Rutgers being my alma mater, I am excited to have the opportunity to coach against their program, it's definitely a cool part of my career".
This tournament marks the Blue Raiders first meeting against the Scarlet Knights and the Quakers. The squad's first match of the weekend against host, Robert Morris marks their second all-time meeting. The Blue Raiders take a one game edge over the Colonials recording a, 3-0, victory back on Sept. 9, 1995.
The Blue Raiders enter the invitational off a successful weekend in Morehead, Ky. winning their first pre-season tournament title in seven seasons.
Sophomore Dora Peonia paved the way for the Blue Raiders on Saturday against the Morehead State Eagles recording a career-high 18 kills. In addition, the Castel Bolognese, Italy product produced eight digs while matching a career-high four service aces.
Defensively, sophomore Brienna Tankesley recorded a career-high 16 digs over the South Carolina State Bulldogs averaging 5.33 digs per set.
Junior Regan Coughlin and Sloan Sullivan earned a spot on the Comfort Inn-vitational All-Tournament team alongside sophomore Taylor Hammill who netted the MVP honor.
The Robert Morris Invitational marks the final pre-season tournament for the Blue Raiders who will begin conference play in the Alumni Memorial Gym on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. versus the UAB Blazers.
