Trio of upperclassmen lead MT into Mason Rudolph Championship
Round 1 Pairings
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee women's golf is back in action Friday as the Blue Raiders head to the Vanderbilt Legends Club with a slightly revamped roster to take on the talented field at the Mason Rudolph Championship.
The tournament, hosted by Vanderbilt, is a three-day event that will conclude on Sunday at the Par 72, 6,335-yard North course.
The 15-team field features 10 teams that finished last season inside the Top 50 of the Golfstat team rankings, three of which were inside the Top 10 and included national champion Arizona State.
The full field includes Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Clemson, Houston, North Carolina, Northwestern, South Carolina, Central Florida, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Middle Tennessee.
The Blue Raiders will be the first Conference USA team to get a look at Charlotte, who is playing in their first-ever women's golf tournament this weekend in Franklin.
"This tournament is going to be a great opportunity for us to start off the year," head coach Chris Adams said. "It is a very deep field but it gives our team an idea of what we're striving for and what we hope to see in the postseason each year."
Heading up the MT lineup are juniors Hanley Long and Jenna Burris, both of which have earned all-conference honors in each of the last two seasons. Long was Conference USA's individual runner-up as a true freshman in 2016 while Burris took home the individual title in 2017.
Senior Cynthia Bounleutay also returns to the Blue Raider lineup this season while the trio of returners are joined by a pair of true freshmen who call Tennessee home in Clarksville native Caroline Caudill and Manchester native Savannah Quick.
"It's always great to have three girls back that have good experience and I think those three will be great leaders on this team, but we're also very optimistic and excited about what the younger girls can do for us this season as well," Adams added. "I'm really looking forward to seeing how they perform this weekend."
Bounleutay leads things off for the Raiders on Friday, going off of the 10th tee at 9:55 a.m.
Live scoring will be available throughout the 54-hole event at Golfstat.com.
