After netting the first frame over the Scarlet Knights, MT was unable to recover from the Rutgers defense in the next three frames. Rutgers posted a 6 edge (40-34) in digs over Middle Tennessee. However, the Blue Raiders tallied a 3 edge (46-43) in kills over Rutgers.

Quotable
"I feel like this weekend, I mentality prepared myself to come in, ready to win. I took this as an opportunity to go out here and win these games because I had confidence in myself and I knew that we, as a team, could dominate the competition. That mindset is what gave me the extra drive and the want to play hard for each one of my teammates. Going into the match against Rutgers, it is important to realize that we did not have enough time as we would of hoped for to get out there and refocused but, it didn't matter. At the end of the day, the other team wants to beat us as much as we want to beat them". – Junior Makila York
"We haven't seen a five set match this year so, to be able to go out there on someone's home court and win in five sets is a step in our process and our end goal—for the girls to have career highs over Robert Morris added to that. Makila was lights out tonight, everything we threw her she was putting down. As far as serving, I don't know what our service numbers will do to us now but, with being number twenty-one in the nation (aces per set) Sloan's serving is a testimony to why we had that success, so that's a big deal. Bri is just a baller, she is gritty, she is tough, and she is everything that our culture stands for as a whole". – Head Coach Chuck Crawford
