MT on three-match winning streak
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Sophomore midfielder Amber Hoot finished off a multi-goal night by freshman Peyton DePriest by sealing a thrilling 3-2 win for Middle Tennessee Sunday with a goal in the second minute of overtime to push the Blue Raiders past Evansville.
DePriest opened the scoring on the night in the 14th minute, but her goal was quickly equalized by Evansville just six minutes later. The Raiders' leading scorer put MT up once again just three minutes into the second half and it looked as if the Blue Raider defense would hold, but Evansville was able to pull even once again in the 82nd minute.
After dropping their only other overtime contest of the season to Austin Peay, but were able to avenge that loss with tonight's overtime win courtesy of the 92nd minute goal by Hoot.
Her game winner gave Middle Tennessee its third consecutive victory to push the Blue Raiders record to 3-4 on the year and keep the momentum rolling as Conference USA play begins next Sunday.
NOTABLES
QUOTABLES
"Sunday games are tough, and I think Friday's game did take a lot out of us. Kennesaw was a very physical, athletic and aggressive team so we really had to work for that win. Evansville is no different. I think we were able to manage the game really well and got some support from our bench. Those players that came in really helped us mange this game." - Head Coach Aston Rhoden on winning back-to-back physical contests
"It's just a matter of belief. We put the work in, we know what our identity is and how we want to play, and now we believe in that and I think we're just doing a little bit better now than we were at the start of the season. Hopefully we can continue to refine it going into conference play next weekend." - Head Coach Aston Rhoden on what's changed since starting the season 0-4
"Peyton has done extremely well. She's a very smart soccer player and she knows how to create goals and where to show up to get on the bottom of goals. She's doing what we know she's capable of doing and I think her ceiling is very high and she is nowhere near it yet." - Head Coach Aston Rhoden on Peyton DePriest's performance so far this season
"At the end of regulation Amber made a statement to the team and said ' guys, we got this.' We jokingly said we didn't realize that you meant you got this for us. I think her shot was a very good shot. She took the initiative, looked up, took the shot, and she's a special player." - Head Coach Aston Rhoden on the emotion surrounding Amber Hoot's game winner
