DAY ONE RESULTS
MEMPHIS – The Middle Tennessee men's golf team opened its 2017-18 season on Monday at the Memphis Intercollegiate. The Blue Raiders had rounds of 287-290 at Colonial Country Club (par 72, 7,235 yards) and are tied for the overall lead with Little Rock.
The Blue Raiders and Trojans are at 1-over par while host Memphis is in third at 5-over followed by WKU at 7-over and Georgetown at 8-over.
"Being tied for the lead without anyone shooting a round in the 60s shows the depth that we have," said Head Coach Brennan Webb. "I am looking forward to tomorrow. Always great to play in contention early in the year. It's a great opportunity for us."
Sophomore Chip Thomas led the Blue Raiders on day one with rounds of 72-70 and is tied for sixth overall.
Redshirt freshman Tyler Johnson, playing in his first tournament as a Blue Raider, is tied for 11th. Johnson opened with a 2-under 70 and added a 73 in round two.
Junior Marcus Byrd had rounds of 72-72 and sits at even par which puts him in 14th place.
Sophomore Ilari Saulo is tied for 38th while Tanner Owens is tied for 61st.
Sophomore James Beckner, playing as an individual, turned in impressive rounds of 71-70 and is tied for fourth, just three shots back of the overall leader.
The Blue Raiders will play the final round beginning Tuesday morning at 9:45 AM.
