The Blue Raiders recently wrapped up their preseason slate posting a 4-10 record, the best in the past four years. Likewise, the squad inked their first preseason tournament win in seven seasons at Morehead State's Comfort Inn-vitational. Middle Tennessee ranks 20th in Division I with 82 total service aces this season and 28th with 1.67 aces per set.
"Throughout the preseason we played three top-25 opponents and from a coaching perspective, I think whenever you play that type of schedule in a preseason it helps set up the team up for a better outcome in conference play," said head coach Chuck Crawford. "Throughout the preseason we have had small successes as a team and I believe that each small success boots confidence within the team. The confidence boost will help our team mentally when we are in tough matches in conference play, because Conference USA is a tough conference, that the girls have been there and they know how to be successful among tough competitors".
Middle Tennessee wrapped up their preseason schedule at the Robert Morris Invitational with four of the seven starters netting career-best outings.
Junior right side Makila York led the squad offensively on the weekend tallying a combined 46-kills to average 3.83 kills per set. The Trinidad and Tobago product posted her best outing against Robert Morris to notch a career-best 18 kills.
Similarly, sophomore Dora Peonia inked her first double-double of the season over the Robert Morris Colonials with 13 kills and 13 digs. The junior middle blocker netted 39 kills over the weekend to average 3.25 kills per set to earn a spot on the Robert Morris Invitational All-Tournament team along with York.
From her libero position, Brienna Tankesley averages 3.45 digs per set to rank tenth among C-USA competitors. Tanklesy recorded her best outing of the season over the Quakers to average 5.33 digs per set.
After a weekend at home, the Blue Raiders will head back on the road for matches at Rice on Friday, Sept.29th and at Western Kentucky on Sunday, Oct. 1st.
