MT drops conference opener in four sets

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Blue Raiders drop its conference opener in four sets (25-17, 22-25, 16-25, 26-24) to the UAB Blazers on Friday in the Alumni Memorial Gym.
However, despite the loss the Blue Raiders recorded a +3 edge in kills (51-48) over the Blazers.
Sophomore Dora Peonia paced the squads offense recording 17 kills, hitting on a .167 clip. Similarly, junior Regan Coughlin and junior Makila York tallied 12 kills apiece. The junior pairing racked up a combined seven digs over the Blazers.
From her setter spot, sophomore Taylor Hammill inked 45-assists, just one shy of her career best. The Greenwood, Ind. product added two service aces and a kill during her outing.
Sophomore Brienna Tankesley led the Blue Raider defense with 17 of the teams 37 digs to average 4.25 digs per set.
Also recording kills for the Blue Raiders included redshirt-junior Vonnie Covington (5) and freshman Josie Maxim (4).
