Byrd tied for sixth overall
CINCINNATI – After 36 holes Monday at the Bearcat Invitational, Middle Tennessee is in sixth place but only 12 shots back of the overall lead. The Raiders had rounds of 283 and 276 to put them at 9-under par overall.
The 8-under par 276 second round equaled the ninth best round in school history.
Kentucky is the overall leader at 21-under par while Arkansas is second at 17-under par. Ohio State is third followed by Mississippi State and Illinois.
"We got off to a slow start this morning but Marcus (Byrd) kept us in it with a solid round," said Head Coach Brennan Webb. "The guys seemed to settle down in the afternoon and we played very well. A couple stumbles coming in but anytime you are throwing out an under par round you are going to be happy with the round. Hopefully we will continue this momentum and get ourselves back into contention."
On the day, junior Marcus Byrd led the way with impressive rounds of 67-68 and is tied for sixth overall. Byrd was 1-under on par 3s to rank third in the field.
Sophomore Chip Thomas is tied for 14th after posting rounds of 70 and 69. Thomas had seven birdies over his 36 holes.
Sophomore Ilari Saulo is tied for 29th after turning in rounds of 73 and 70.
Tyler Johnson and James Beckner are both tied for 34th. Johnson opened with a 75 then bounced back with a nice 69 in round two. Beckner fired a 73 in the first 18 and carded an even par 71 in round two.
Sophomore Tanner Owens is tied for 69th after rebounding from round one turning in a 1-under par 70 in the second 18.
The Blue Raiders will begin final round action at 8:45 AM CT Tuesday morning.
