MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Heading out for their first conference road matches of the year, the Middle Tennessee soccer team looks to grab two wins in Florida. The Raiders will face off at Florida Atlantic on Friday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. and then take on FIU on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 11 a.m.
FAU comes into the match with a 6-4-1 record and a 1-1 record in conference play. The Owls lost to Rice on the road, 6-2, but earned a win at home over Old Dominion, 1-0, last weekend. This has FAU currently sitting in the middle of the pack in the race to the C-USA Tournament.
The Blue Raiders lead the all-time series between the two sides, 8-5. However, FAU picked up the win in last season's contest, 1-0, with a header off a corner kick in the 37th minute.
The Owls have had a pair of C-USA Players of the Week this season, both coming back on August 28. Ebba Blomqvist earned the defensive honor while Jennifer Ocampo earned the goalkeeping award.
Blomqvist is also the squad's top goal scorer, with four this season, two of which have been on penalty kick attempts. Miracle Porter has three goals on the year while Pernille Velta has a team-high three assists.
Ocampo has played every minute in goal for the Owls, already totaling over 1,000 minutes on the year. She has 51 saves and four shutouts, both top five marks in the conference.
FIU is set to play UAB on Friday night before facing the Raiders on Sunday but as of now holds a 1-5 record, 0-1 in C-USA play. The Panthers only win came over Jacksonville, a 1-0 game. The lone goal is also the only one that FIU has managed this season, and it was an own goal.
In conference play, FIU fell to conference-leading Charlotte, 3-0 last weekend.
The Blue Raiders lead the all-time series between the two sides, 11-7-1, but like FAU, FIU also won last year's matchup. The Panthers and Raiders took it to double overtime before FIU won it, 3-2. Bria Williams and Isabella De Almagro scored two of FIU's goals in the game and return to the pitch for the 2017 battle.
Williams and De Almagro are also the Panthers most prominent threats again this season, leading the squad in shots with nine apiece.
Nevena Stojackovic is the FIU goalkeeper, playing every minute so far this season. She has recorded 32 saves and one shutout.
MT comes into the game with a 3-5, 0-1 record, falling in their last match and first conference meeting to UTSA, 1-0.
Freshman Peyton DePriest continues to lead the Raider offense, recording a team-high in goals (five), points (12), shots (25) and shots on goal (10). This puts her near the top of the conference in all categories.
Amber Hoot leads the squad in assists with three while Sam DeBien has picked up two goals on the season.
Sydney Chalcraft has been the Raider goalkeeper this year, recording 33 saves and a shutout.
This weekend's games will be streamed on C-USA TV.
