Blue Raiders Host Chattanooga for Home Opener

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team host its home opener in the Alumni Memorial Gym on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 6:00 p.m. versus in-state foe, Chattanooga.
This marks the 27th meeting between The Blue Raiders and the Mocs. Middle Tennessee holds the series history edge over Chattanooga recording wins in 15 of the 26 program meetings (15-11).
The Blue Raiders enter the matchup after participating in the Bruiser Showcase, this past weekend (9/1-9/2). In the game against UT Arlington, junior outside hitter Regan Coughlin racked up 15 kills hitting on a .438 clip. Other Blue Raider leaders at Belmont included, sophomore setter Taylor Hammill who tallied identical 24 assists in the matches against UT Arlington and Belmont.
Defensivley, sophomore libero Brienna Tankesley leads Middle Tennessee recording 53 of the teams 152 digs. The Landisville, Pa. native averages 2.94 digs per set. Likewise, redshirt-junior Vonnie Covington leads the squad in blocks tallying eight of the teams 23 total blocks.
Other notable Blue Raiders include freshman Josie Maxim who recorded a season-high eight kills against Idaho State. Similarly, Covington recorded a new season-high versus Belmont, racking up seven kills.
After its home opener, Middle Tennessee volleyball will head back on the road to Morehead, Ky. on Sept. 8th for the Comfort Inn-vitational.
Chalk Talk with Coach Crawford
Attention Blue Raider fans, don't forget to attend Coach Crawford's chalk talk before the match against Chattanooga! Crawford's chalk talk will begin at 5:10 p.m. in the volleyball film room on the second floor of the Alumni Memorial Gym.
