Blue Raiders Drop Home Opener to Chattanooga, 3-1
9/5/2017 9:27:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team dropped its home opener against Chattanooga in four sets (3-1) on Tuesday night.
In a tightly contested match, Chattanooga was able to take the first two frames (25-22, 25-21) before falling in the third set to the Blue Raiders (25-17).
However, Middle Tennessee was unable to recover from a strong Mocs offense to drop the fourth and final set, 25-15.
Junior Regan Coughlin's 13 kills were two short of her best effort of the season. Similarly, redshirt-junior Vonnie Covington matched her season-high of seven kills against Chattanooga.
The Mocs earned a +6 margin in digs (47-41) despite 16 digs from sophomore Brienna Tankesley. Meanwhile, MT earned a 19-10 edge in blocks and a 11-9 margin in aces on the night.
At the setter spot, sophomore Taylor Hammill dished out a season-high 31 assists while adding six digs, five aces and two kills.
Quotable
"Regan was just selected by her teammates to lead the team as a captain this season and she is really emerging as a leader. We are proud of the fight she had today hitting at a .306 with thirteen kills and thirty-six attempts with only two errors—so that's what you would hope from a upperclassmen captain and we are really proud of her". – Head Coach Chuck Crawford
