Defense leads MT to a straight-set triumph over Bulldogs

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team's defense held South Carolina State to a .027 attack percentage in a 3-0 victory in Morehead, Ky. on Friday night.
The Blue Raiders won the first set, 25-10, using a 10-0 run over the Bulldogs. South Carolina State built a lead in the second, but once again Middle Tennessee battled back to take the second frame, 25-20. In the third and final set, the Blue Raiders posted another, 25-20, set win to take the match over the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Dora Peonia registered a season-high 10 kills and four aces for the Blue Raiders who tallied 47 kills and four service aces. On the other hand, the Bulldogs couldn't get their offense going posting just 16 kills compared to 14 errors.
From their outside hitter spots, junior Regan Coughlin was efficient offensively with 11 kills (.455) while earning three digs and two assists. Similarly, junior Makila York and redshirt-junior Vonnie Covington recorded seven kills apiece.
From her libero spot, sophomore Brienna Tankesley recorded 16 kills of the teams 42. Likewise, sophomore Taylor Hammill and Peonia added eight digs apiece.
Freshman Josie Maxim recorded six of the teams 12 blocks while adding five kills.
