MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After two wins to open the season on Monday, Middle Tennessee men's tennis will be back in action Friday at 2 p.m. to face a Vanderbilt team that was ranked No. 46 by the ITA at the end of last season.
"Vanderbilt has had our number quite a bit. They're very strong and very deep," MT head coach Jimmy Borendame said. "It's going to be their first dual match, and we'll be playing on their turf. We're looking forward to it. It's going to be a good challenge. We've got to play some good defense because we know they'll be able to handle our offense."
The Commodores return six out of the seven student athletes that appeared in a 4-0 win over the Blue Raiders at the Currey Tennis Center in 2017, including Daniel Valent, who's currenly ranked No. 50 in singles by the ITA. The doubles pair of Lachlan McPhee and Billy Rowe are ranked No. 36.
MT's Tom Moonen will be looking to defend his Conference USA Player of the Week title starting with a showdown against Vanderbilt followed by a doubleheader at the Adams Tennis Complex on Sunday against UAB and Alabama State.
Live stats will be available for the match at Vanderbilt, and updates on the match will be posted on Twitter, @MT_MensTennis, and on Facebook, MTSU Men's Tennis.
