MT Looks to Extend Streak Against Southern Miss

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's basketball team is riding a three-game winning streak as it welcomes Southern Miss to the Murphy Center on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
The Lady Raiders (11-7) earned a hard-fought 56-48 victory against North Texas on Thursday to move to 3-2 in Conference USA action.
Scouting the Golden Eagles (10-7, 2-2)
Redshirt-senior Jayla King is the standout player for Southern Miss. The 5-foot-9 guard ranks fourth in the conference in field goal percentage (.507) and seventh in scoring to average 15.9 points per game.
Southern Miss recently clinched their second Conference USA win over UAB 80-63 to break the Blazers seven game win streak on Thursday. Sophomore guard Shonte Hailes recorded a career-best 28 points over the Blazers while adding four assists in the contest.
The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series over the Lady Raiders, grabbing seven wins in the two programs 10 previous meetings.
Quick Hitter: Freshman Guard Anna Jones
The freshman from Jackson, Tennessee has exploded off the bench for the Lady Raiders this season. Jones has averaged 18.67 points while shooting 13-of-23 from distance (56.5) in her last three outings.
Respectively, Jones earned her first Conference USA freshman of the week honor this past week after recording a season-high 30 points and eight 3-point baskets in a 54-45 win over the UTEP Miners.
Lady Raiders Top National Charts in Defensive Efforts
As of Jan. 17, the Lady Raiders ranked ninth in the nation in 3-point field goal defense, holding competitors to only 25.8 percent from distance.
Likewise, the team has held 14-of-their-18 competitors to five or less 3-point baskets and 14 opponents to less than a thirty-percent field goal percentage during their 18 outings this season.
