Five Blue Raiders Notch Top Finishes in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Five Blue Raiders posted top finishes on Sunday at the Kevin Stevenson Invite in Birmingham.
Sophomore Trevon Sanders inked a personal-best and a first place finish in the 800 meter event crossing the finish line with a time of 1:52.99. Similarly, junior Kigen Chemadi finished first in the mile run with a time of 4:13.57.
On the women's side Janet Amponsah, Pamela Kosgei, and Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad recorded first place finishes in their respective events. Amponsah finished with a time of 23.96 in the 200-meter while Abdullah-Muhammad jumped 1.62m in the high jump. Kosegi ran in the 3,000-meter event to post a time of 10:09.33 to clinch her first collegiate victory.
Likewise, Jacob Patten posted a personal-best in the high jump this weekend with a height of 2.15m.
Junior Joycelyn Assafuah also continues to improve every meet this season, inking a new personal-best in the 400-meter event this weekend with a time of 55.65.

"Overall this meet was important," said head coach Dean Hayes. "The Conference USA Indoor Championships will be held at the Birmingham Metro CrossPlex this season and it was important for our newer athletes to gain experience on a banked track. This weekend, Jacob Choge and Issac Odugbesan got us off to a great start this weekend followed by great performances by Joycelyn, Dadzie, and Sanders".
