Averaged 16.5 points in two wins
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Anna Jones' outstanding play continued during Middle Tennessee's recent two-game sweep of C-USA foes.
Jones' exceptional work was recognized for the second time in three weeks as she was named the C-USA Freshman of the Week Monday. Jones is the only league rookie to earn C-USA Freshman of the Week honors twice since league play began.
WKU senior Tashia Brown was named the C-USA Player of the Week, and Florida Atlantic's Ra'Kyra Gabriel earned C-USA Honor Roll recognition. Awards are chosen by a vote from the league's communication directors.
"What a tremendous honor for Anna," Lady Raider Head Coach Rick Insell said. "Anna has really stepped up, especially since conference play began. She is playing with confidence and she has given our team a big lift."
Jones averaged a team-best 16.5 points and five rebounds to go with 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists in Lady Raiders wins at Marshall and against Charlotte. Jones led the Lady Raiders in scoring with 21 points at Marshall – the second-highest scoring output of her career. She also led the team in rebounds with six.
The Jackson, Tenn., native has reached double figures in five of the last six games with 12 against Charlotte.
Over the past five games, Jones is averaging a team-best 17.4 points and 4.0 rebound per game. Middle Tennessee is 4-1 during that stretch.
