Lady Raiders Host Conference Home Opener on Saturday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's basketball team (8-6, 0-1) is set to host UAB for its conference home opener in the Murphy Center on Saturday Jan. 6 at 6 p.m. The Lady Raiders look to recover from their first 57-43 conference setback against Western Kentucky (10-4, 1-0) on Thursday.
Scouting the UAB Blazers
The Blazers (12-2, 1-0) clinched their first conference game over the Old Dominion Monarchs, 74-61, on Thursday evening. Sophomore guard Miyah Barnes led the Blazers to victory recording 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field over the Monarchs.
Similarly, redshirt-sophomore guard Trista Magee added 16 points while sophomore forward Rachael Childress contributed 11.
On the defensive end, senior guard Kara Rawls grabbed 9-of-the-33 Blazer rebounds while adding one block.
UAB opened its season with an 87-72 victory over Mississippi Valley State. After their first win of the season, the Blazers added another two wins before recording their first loss of the season to Indiana University with a 63-71 setback in San Francisco, Calif. UAB wrapped up its pre-season play with an 11-2 record.
Middle Tennessee holds a 10-5 all-time record over UAB. The Lady Raiders have notched four-straight games over the Blazers.
The Lady Raiders fall to Western Kentucky, 43-57
Senior Abbey Sissom paced the Middle Tennessee offense inking 11 points over the Lady Toppers. Likewise, Sissom added an assist and a rebound on the evening.
Meanwhile, freshman Anna Jones led the team in rebounding grabbing six boards in her 22 minutes of action. Similarly, senior Rebecca Reuter (5) and sophomore Charity Savage (4) added a combined nine rebounds.
Up Next: Texas Road Trip
After Saturday's contest, the Lady Raiders continue conference play with a Texas swing traveling to UTSA on Jan. 11 before wrapping up their road trip at UTEP on Jan. 13.
