Raiders Set for Commodore Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee men and women's track and field teams are set for its next meet of the indoor season at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn. The meet will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday with field events and running events at 7 p.m. Similarly, on Saturday the meet will continue with running events at 10 a.m. and field events starting at 11 a.m.
Four Blue Raiders, Nationally Ranked
Four Blue Raiders claim top-positions in the nation after their first two outings of the indoor season. Middle Tennessee men and women's track and field team opened their season at the Vanderbilt Opener on Dec. 2 before competing in the Edward Temple Classic on Jan. 7.
Freshman Cecelia Francis claimed a first place finish in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.91 at the Ed Temple Classic on Jan. 7. Francis posts the best women's collegiate time in the 55-meter event giving her the title both nationally and in Conference USA. Likewise, junior Abike Egbeniyi posted a season best 2:05.31 in the 800-meter event at the Vanderbilt Opener on Dec. 2 and currently holds the best time in the nation, respectively. Meanwhile, senior Elizabeth Dadzie rounds off the Middle Tennessee women in the national ranks with a time of 8:01 in the 55-meter hurdles.
On the men's side, Kigen Chemadi paces the collegiate field in the mile run, inking a season-best 4:03.65 at the Vanderbilt Opener on Dec. 2.
Last Time Out: Ed Temple Classic
In the second meet of the season, seven Blue Raiders notched first place title in their respective events.
Freshman Vincent Kibet opened the day for the Blue Raiders inking a first place finish in the one-mile event with a time of 4:38.53. Likewise, Betwel Kimutai finished second crossing the line at 4:41.22.
Franics, Egbeniyi and Dadzie also took first-place finishes in the women's events of 55-meter hurdles, 55-meter dash and 400-meter dash. Francis claimed a 6.91 finish, while Dadzie and Egbeniyi ran times of 8.01 and 55.07 in their respective events.
Also claiming titles at the Ed Temple Classic includes Jacob Patten (high jump, triple jump) and Lamarco Petty (55-meter dash).
