MURFREESBORO – Middle Tennessee Head Coach Rick Stockstill announced today the hiring of Dustin Royston as the football programs 10th assistant coach. Royston, who served as a graduate assistant for the Blue Raiders in 2017, will be an assistant defensive line coach.
"Dustin was with our staff last year in a graduate assistant position and did an excellent job," said Stockstill. "I was impressed with his work ethic, communication skills and his knowledge of our defense. He will also do a great job in recruiting."
Royston focused on the defensive front in 2017 where the Raiders had an all-conference player in Walter Brady along with all-freshman team member Jordan Ferguson.
Prior to arriving in Murfreesboro, Royston spent two years at Alabama where he worked with the outside linebackers. During his time, the Tide had the No. 1 and No. 2 rated defenses in the country while picking up a national title and two SEC championships.
A native of Toccoa, GA, Royston played at Georgia where he competed in four bowl games. He earned his degree in Political Science and International Affairs from UGA in 2013.
"The confidence Coach Stockstill has shown in me to make me full-time is a real honor," said Royston. "He is the best in the business and I am fortunate to be a member of his staff. I am also very grateful to Coach (Tommy) West and Coach (Scott) Shafer for believing in me and providing this opportunity. We have a lot of quality people at Middle Tennessee and a lot of great things are happening. I can't wait to get started and help us build a champion."
