LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Middle Tennessee softball team returned to UCLA to wrap up the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 11. The Blue Raiders fell to Maryland, 2-1 and then bested UC Riverside, 2-1.
Middle had another comeback win, after the Highlanders tied the game in the fifth inning. Summer Burgess had the clutch bat, connecting on an RBI single to score Claire Smith, the game winning run.
Middle is now 2-4 on the year after a challenging first weekend of the 2018 schedule.
Game One: Maryland 2, Middle Tennessee 1
The Blue Raiders struck first against Maryland, facing the Terps for the first time in program history. MT got on the board in the bottom of the first as Precious Birdsong was walked. She moved around the base path on a stolen base and a hit from Jocelynn De La Cruz. Birdsong then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of freshman Ryan King.
