Women’s Tennis eyes first true road win
Match Notes
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee women's tennis will be looking to continue the momentum gained from two home wins last weekend as they travel to Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday.
"The girls have worked really hard in practice this week," MT head coach Charlie Ramsay said. "We've thrown a lot at them over the past two weeks, and they've handled it well. This group wants to get better, and they want to be successful. They're just learning what it takes right now."
The Blue Raiders (7-3) have had lots of positives so far this season, as Kim Kermet leads the team in singles wins with an 8-1 record and is tied for the team lead in doubles wins at 5-2. Zani Barnard has yet to lose a match as a Blue Raider, posting a 5-0 record in the back half of the lineup.
The No. 5 and 6 spots of the singles lineup has a combined record of 15-3, proving that depth is the key to being competitive. As for the doubles portion of the season, the Blue Raiders are 7-0 when they win the doubles point, and they are 0-3 when their opponent takes a lead into singles play.
For the second straight week, MT will take on the Atlantic Sun's reigning player of the week, as FGCU's Madison Gallegos was named as her conference's top player on Wednesday. The freshman is the only Eagle with an undefeated singles record at 3-0, playing in the middle of the lineup. FGCU takes a 1-2 record into the match, as the Eagles defeated FAU before dropping matches to FIU and No. 17 Miami (FL).
"I'm proud of the way the girls have trained and prepared, and I'm excited for them to compete against a good FGCU team. It should be a lot of fun," Ramsay added.
Updates and information regarding the match will be posted on Twitter, @MT_WomensTennis, and Facebook, MTSU Women's Tennis. Middle Tennessee returns to the Adams Tennis Complex on Feb. 23 vs. Chattanooga at 5 p.m.
