Senior DH earns spot on third team
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee senior Aaron Aucker has been named third team preseason All-America by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) as announced by the association Monday.
Aucker is one of five C-USA players to earn acclaim on the preseason teams. Aucker earned a spot on the preseason All-America lists as a designated hitter.
Aucker, the son of Mark and Kathy Aucker, was a first-team All-Conference USA selection in 2017, and he is a preseason All-Conference selection in 2018. The Knoxville, Tenn., native hit a career-best .369 with 11 home runs and 71 RBI in 2017.
"Aaron is certainly deserving of the recognition he is receiving this preseason based on the year he put forth last season," Blue Raider Head Coach Jim McGuire said. "He has enjoyed a good fall and strong offseason so the expectations are there because Aaron has put in the work."
Aucker started 41 games for the Blue Raiders in 2017 with 39 of them coming as the designated hitter. He led the Blue Raiders in home runs (10), slugging percentage (.641) and on-base percentage (.448). Aucker ranked third in C-USA for slugging percentage and sixth for on-base percentage. His .359 batting average was 7th in C-USA.
Aucker had a team-best 18-game hit streak during one stretch in 2017 and became the first Blue Raider to have a 15-plus game hit streak since 2013. He also reached base in 28 straight games during one stretch.
Aucker also led Middle Tennessee with 11 multi-RBI games and 15 multi-hit games.
"I am appreciative of the people who considered me worthy of this honor," Aucker said. "It is great to be listed among some of the best players in college baseball, but my main goal is for our team to have a solid season and get back to a NCAA Regional. That's really the focus."
Middle Tennessee will open the 2018 season with a three-game series against Western Illinois at Reese Smith beginning Feb. 16.
