CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Following its series loss to West Virginia, Middle Tennessee turns its aim toward Austin Peay this week for its final tune-up game before the start of conference play.
The Blue Raiders (8-8) will travel to Clarksville Tuesday for a 6 p.m. start, while the Governors (10-6) will come to Murfreesboro later this season.
As it stands, MT leads the all-time series 88-43 and 14-8 since 2006. In the teams' last matchup, Middle Tennessee prevailed in a pitcher's duel 3-2 at Reese Smith Jr. Field.
A.J. Spencer got the start in that game, going 5.0 innings and giving up zero runs on only two hits. In addition, Ryan Kemp was 1-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run.
Since Spencer got work in over the weekend against the Mountaineers, sophomore right-hander Grant Williams will get the nod on the mound for the Blue Raiders on Tuesday.
In his last midweek start, Williams went 6.0 shutout innings while only giving up one hit against Memphis.
Austin Peay has started strong this season, winning a series over Indiana State followed with another series win over Jacksonville State last weekend.
As a team, AP is slugging .392 at the plate and averaging 6.87 runs per game. Meanwhile, on the mound they give up almost the same number of runs as they score (6.77 per game).
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Raymond C. Hand Park. Fans can tune into the Blue Raider Network (100.5/101.9 FM) to hear the radio call.
