BOWLING GREEN, Ky. –Middle Tennessee (11-9, 2-1) dropped their series finale against conference foe Western Kentucky (10-10, 1-2) by a score of 10-7.
"We weren't able to hold on to the lead this time." Said head coach Jim McGuire "Their reliever came in and shut us down those last 4 innings."
For the fourth game in a row, the Blue Raiders jumped out to the lead in the first inning when Ryan Kemp singled to drive in Austin Dennis from 2nd base.
But Western Kentucky would answer in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs and taking their first lead of the series.
Middle Tennessee would take their last lead of the day in the top of the fourth when Aaron Aucker deposited a two run home run to left field. The inning would continue with Blake Benefield doubling to score Myles Christian and Aaron Antonini.
Western Kentucky would score runs in four of their last five frames including three runs in both the fourth and fifth inning to overpower the Blue Raiders.
LA Woodard, Austin Dennis, Ryan Kemp, and Christian all had two hits and scored at least one run over the span of the day.
Both Scheldon Paulk and AJ Spencer were used out of the bullpen to relieve starter Peyton Wigginton.
Although Middle Tennessee lost the finale, the Blue Raiders took two out three games from the Hilltoppers, marking their first road series win against Western Kentucky since the 2005 season.
The Blue Raiders return to action on Tuesday at Lipscomb. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
