NORFOLK, Va. – Middle Tennessee's women's tennis team improved its win streak to five in a row with a win over Georgetown on Saturday, but the Blue Raiders were defeated on Sunday by No. 45 Old Dominion.
The Blue Raiders (12-5) are now 1-1 in Conference USA play, 4-0 in neutral site matches, and 1-3 in true road matches. MT is also 11-1 this season after winning the doubles point.
Against Georgetown (1-9) on Saturday, Kim Kermet and Luisa Zirilli paired for a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles, and Costanza Magazzini teamed up with Maria Josefina Zehnder at No. 3 for a win by the same score.
In singles play, the Hoyas earned a straight set win at No. 3 to go with three-set wins at the top two singles spots, but the Blue Raiders again showed their depth with singles wins coming in the last half of the lineup. Marta Peris Herrero dominated at No. 4, posting a 6-3, 6-1 score, followed by Lidia Burrows on court five, who took a 6-1, 7-5 victory.
As for Sunday's match against the Monarchs (14-4), ODU got the match started with doubles wins at No. 2 and 3. In singles, all six matches ended in straight sets, and the Monarchs improved to 4-0 in C-USA play this season.
The Blue Raiders wrap up their final road swing of the season on March 23 at Memphis before returning to the Adams Tennis Complex for the final six matches of the regular season, starting with Western Kentucky on March 25 at 1 p.m.
