MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee softball came dropped its series finale to Charlotte, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon. MT still took the series with the doubleheader sweep of the 49ers yesterday.

The Blue Raiders fall to 22-10, 5-4 while Charlotte moves to 10-18, 4-5.

The 49ers took a two-run lead in the second inning and the runs would end up being all they needed. Two doubles in the inning from Jude McGough and Kiersten Berrier brought a run across and then an infield single from Bailey Rhoney gave Charlotte a 2-0 lead.

Middle responded with two doubles of their own in the next frame. Morgan Harris and Lexi Cushing sent back-to-back hits to left center to put MT on the board.

Charlotte added two insurance runs in the fifth. A Blue Raider error, a couple of infield hits and a walk put the 49rs ahead, 4-1. Charlotte looked to be threatening for more runs but Amber Baldwin stepped into the circle in relief and recorded two strikeouts to keep MT in the hunt for a comeback.

In the seventh, Kristin Uselton muscled a two-out single up the middle but she would be left stranded as the 49ers stole the 4-1 win.

Cori Jennings recorded the loss. She is now 10-5 on the year. She struck out three in her four innings of work against the 49ers on the day.

The Blue Raiders continue their home stand as they take on in-state rival Tennessee State on Wednesday. The game is set for 6pm at the Blue Raider Softball Field.
