Nick King named Lute Olson All-American

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Senior forward Nick King has been named a candidate for the 2017-2018 Lute Olson Player of the Year Award in addition to making the Lute Olson All-American team.
Presented annually, the Lute Olson Player of the Year Award is given to the top athlete in college basketball who has played at least two seasons at the Division I level.
King, one of 35 players awarded All-American status by the Lute Olson Award and only one of two from Conference USA, averaged 21.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game on .495/.389/.732 shooting splits. His 21.0 points per game rank in the Top 30 nationally and second in C-USA.
King's 694 points scored broke the Middle Tennessee record for points in a single season. He also posted 11 double-doubles in 33 games.
In addition to being named third-team All-American by USA Today, King was also awarded Conference USA Newcomer and Player of the Year while leading the Blue Raiders to the regular season conference title.
In conference play King posted 19.8 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. He posted season highs in points at FGCU and against North Texas (32), rebounds against Charlotte (12) and minutes against Southern Miss (42).
The Lute Olson award is named after the legendary head coach who won 780 games in his 34 seasons. In his 24 years at the University of Arizona, Olson led the Wildcats to 11 Pac-10 Conference titles, 23 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, four Final Fours and the 1997 National Championship.
Other players who have been named finalists include Duke's Marvin Bagley and Grayson Allen, Oklahoma's Trae Young and Arizona's DeAndre Ayton and Allonzo Trier.
The award will be announced on April 2nd, 2018 at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Event in San Antonio, the site of the NCAA Basketball National Championship.
