Nationally ranked Blue Raiders wind down the regular season
Match Notes
MURFREESBORO, Tenn.– Middle Tennessee's men's tennis team is aiming for its eighth straight victory and fourth as a nationally ranked team as the Blue Raiders travel to ETSU for a match on Wednesday afternoon.
The Blue Raiders were ranked No. 45 by the ITA last week with the updated rankings coming out on Tuesday. After wins over VCU and William & Mary over the weekend, MT is expected to stay in the national rankings for another week.
Gian Issa looks to continue his climb up the career singles wins leaderboard, as a win over the Buccaneers would tie him for sixth all-time with 85. He leads his team this season with a 19-2 record in dual matches, followed by freshman Chris Edge at 16-6. The bottom of the lineup continues to produce for the Blue Raiders, as they are a combined 36-7 at No. 5 and 6.
East Tennessee State takes a 12-6 record into its match with MT on Wednesday afternoon, including a 6-0 mark in home matches. Robert Herrera is the lone senior on his squad, and he boasts an 11-5 record, all at the top spot in the lineup. Sergi Fontcuberta mans the No. 3 singles spot with an 11-2 record and is 14-3 overall in the spring.
The Buccaneers have a high singles winning percentage as a team but are just 29-20 in doubles in the dual match season. Herrera pairs with Fontcuberta at No. 2 for an 8-1 mark, but ETSU has struggled at times at the No. 1 and 3 spots.
Wednesday's scores and information on the team will be posted on Twitter, @MT_MensTennis, and Facebook, MTSU Men's Tennis. The Blue Raiders return to the Adams Tennis Complex at 2 p.m. on Saturday for Senior Day against Georgia State.
