MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Coming off the first tie since 2010, and its first series tie of the season against Rice, Middle Tennessee turns its focus towards a familiar opponent, in-state foe Lipscomb Bisons, for a game Tuesday in Reese Smith Jr. Field.
The two schools played in Nashville earlier this season, a game Middle Tennessee stormed back to win in extra innings, 8-7.
Carter Bair was nearly untouchable on the mound for the Blue Raiders that day, throwing 5.1 shutout innings and striking out five batters. Austin Dennis got the big hit in the 10th inning, scorching a double off the outfield wall for the game-winning RBI.
Unsurprisingly, Dennis has been dominant all season, reaching base in 26 straight games and leading the Blue Raiders in plate appearances (154), batting average (.351), runs scored (41) and hits (54).
Dennis has also shutdown opposing batters from the mound this season, compiling a 1.32 ERA in his nine appearances of relief.
For the Bisons, while they've struggled in conference play, tallying a 3-6 record against Atlantic Sun opponents, they've compiled big wins in their nonconference/midweek games, including a split against Purdue and wins over No. 8 Vanderbilt and Austin Peay.
Jeffery Crisan (.340/.411/.443) and Zeke Dodson (.317/.395/.496) lead Lipscomb at the plate, as the only two everyday starters with batting averages over .300. Dodson leads all Bisons with 24 RBIs and 39 runs scored, while Crisan is not far behind with 19 RBIs and 14 runs.
Dodson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Crisan went 1-for-5 in the matchup earlier this season.
On the mound, the Bisons have not yet announced a starting pitcher, but relief workhorse Robbie Knox leads all Lipscomb players with 19 pitching appearances in their 34 games.
The junior RHP has posted a 1.50 ERA in his 36 innings, only allowing opponents a .195 batting average. He's also got 29 strikeouts compared to just eight walks.
First pitch in Reese Smith Jr. Field is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fans who cannot attend are encouraged to listen on 101.9/100.5 WGNS to head the call.
