Will continue to fill Director of Ops role
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After finalizing his three assistant coaches last week, Middle Tennessee Head Men's Basketball Coach Nick McDevitt announced Tuesday that former Blue Raider Kerry Hammonds II will remain in his current role as Director of Basketball Operations.
Hammonds re-joined the Blue Raider staff in July of 2017 in his current position. He was previously a Graduate Assistant under former head man Kermit Davis in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
"Kerry has been an invaluable asset to me and my staff from the moment I arrived in Murfreesboro," McDevitt said. "He has a very strong work ethic, approaches each day in a first-class manner and has an outstanding reputation in this community. I look forward to continuing to work with him."
In his one season away from the Murphy Center, Hammonds remained in his hometown and returned to his alma mater, Sigel High School, as an assistant coach before Davis lured him back to campus.
Prior to the beginning of his coaching career, Hammonds played for the Blue Raiders from 2010-14, tallying a 95-38 record in uniform, and amassed 869 career points. He remains in the Top 10 in Middle Tennessee history in 3-pointers made (135) and games played (121).
Hammonds has been a part of five postseason trips as a Blue Raider, helping his squad to the 2012 National Invitation Tournament Quarterfinals and the 2013 NCAA Tournament as a player, the 2015 CollegeInsider.com Tournament and 2016 NCAA Tournament during his two seasons as a Graduate Assistant, and the 2018 NIT this past season on the staff.
"It's an honor to be able to remain in my hometown and at my alma mater to help continue the winning tradition here at Middle Tennessee," Hammonds said. "I'm really looking forward to working with Coach McDevitt and this staff and continuing to learn the game from a great basketball coach and person."
Hammonds earned his bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 2014 and his master's in Sports Management in 2016, both from Middle Tennessee.
