MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Junior third baseman Drew Huff has been awarded the Conference USA Hitter of the Week for his incredible performances against Belmont and Old Dominion.
"We're obviously very happy for Drew to be recognized for his outstanding week," said head coach Jim McGuire. "His unbelievable play at Belmont really got him going, and he carried that into our weekend at Old Dominion.
"His strong play really carried us in our success in the last week."
The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native is the first Blue Raider of the season to win the award, and the first since fellow junior Austin Dennis won it in April of last season. In four games, Huff hit .500 and slugged .850 at the plate, going 10-for-20 with 11 RBI, four runs scored, two doubles, one triple and one home run.
Against Belmont, Huff had a career day at the plate, going 4-for-7, finishing a double shy of the cycle, with a Middle Tennessee program-record nine RBI. His nine RBI are tied for second all-time for a single game in Conference USA.
Huff also tallied six hits in 13 at-bats against Old Dominion, including two doubles and two runs batted in. He also contributed three scoreless innings of relief pitching in Middle Tennessee's Friday night victory, striking out three batters and walking none.
His strong week of play has bumped his batting average up to .272, while his ERA has fallen to an impressive 2.79. For his efforts, Huff was also named Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week.
Huff and the Blue Raiders aim to continue their strong play against nationally-ranked Vanderbilt on Tuesday in Murfreesboro. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. in Reese Smith Jr. Field.
