Blue Raiders advance to C-USA Championship

Defeat Charlotte 3-2
TEXARKANA, AR – Middle Tennessee defeated Charlotte, 3-2, in the semifinals of Match Play at the C-USA Championship late Tuesday. The Blue Raiders will now face No. 1 seed UAB Wednesday morning for the championship.
The winner will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Regional.
Middle Tennessee got wins from Chip Thomas, James Beckner and Marcus Byrd to send them into the championship round.
Thomas, who never trailed, won his match 3 and 2 while Beckner won 2 and 1. Beckner trailed by two after eight holes then won five straight holes to propel him to the victory.
Byrd, playing in the final match with the team score all square, won his 16th hole and halved the 17th to secure his 2 and 1 win. Byrd got up by four early then saw his lead go down to 1-up after 13 holes before taking the critical 16th hole.
The championship match will get underway at 9:00 AM Wednesday and live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
