MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee head coach Chuck Crawford announced the 2018 volleyball slate on Tuesday. The team enters the 2018 season after a physically tough season where they matched up against four teams who earned a 2017 NCAA tournament bid and three ranked opponents.
"Last season I scheduled a pretty difficult schedule for our program, playing seven teams that made an appearance to the NCAA tournament in the previous year," said head coach Chuck Crawford. "Last season definitely presented some challenges—with many injuries and rebuilding our team's culture, which we have accomplished. Moving into this year's schedule, it is a very competitive schedule and we are very excited about hosting our Blue Raider Bash this season with three phenomenal teams. Our non-conference schedule across the board is extremely competitive and one we can compete and help build our teams confidence, moving into conference play".
The Blue Raiders open their season at the Catamount Volleyball Classic hosted by Western Carolina on Friday, Aug. 24 and Saturday, Aug. 25. MT will compete against Big South member Charleston Southern on Friday before rounding off the weekend against Robert Morris and tournament host, Western Carolina.
In the second weekend of the year, Middle Tennessee will host its Blue Raider bash on Friday, Aug. 31 and Saturday, Sept. 1. The team will welcome NCAA Tournament participant Austin Peay to Murfreesboro on Friday before facing Troy and Stetson on Saturday to close off the weekend.
After a weekend at home, the Blue Raiders will travel to Smithfield, R.I. to participate in the Hampton Inn-vitational on Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8. The team will open the Hampton Inn-vitational competing against host, Bryant. Middle Tennessee will wrap up the weekend, competing against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference member, Quinnipiac and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference participant, Coppin State.

In Spartanburg, S.C. the Blue Raiders will compete against Gardner-Webb on Friday, Sept. 14 before playing against tournament host, Wofford and North Carolina A&T on Saturday, Sept. 15.
On Friday, Sept. 21 Middle Tennessee will open Conference USA action on the road against rival Western Kentucky in the E.A. Diddle Arena. The Blue Raiders will round off the weekend against Louisiana Tech on Sunday, Sept. 23.
Middle Tennessee will host their first home C-USA match in the Alumni Memorial Gym on Sunday, Sept. 30 to host Southern Mississippi before traveling to Nashville, Tenn. for a mid-week clash against Tennessee State on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
