Raiders Complete Second Day of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Geoffry Cheruiyot inked a fourth place finish in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase concluding the first day of the Penn Relays to mark the best individual finish during the first two days of the Relays. Cheruiyot crossed the line with a time of 9:00.39, a career-best time.
Likewise, Joice Jebor claimed a 13th place finish in the women's 5,000-meter event with a time of 16:49.73 in the first day of action while Rachel Kigen finished 18th (16:54.61).
At the second day of the Penn Relays, the women's 4x100 relay team of Mirlege Castor, Loveth Odia, Cecilia Francis and Edidiong Odiong opened the afternoon competition, notching an 8th place finish (45.36).
On the men's side the relay team of Adeniji Adedamola, Matthew Stewart, Jaquez Torian and Trevon Sanders inked a 5th place finish in the 4x400 relay (47.15). In the 4x100 men's relay Keyon Hugle, Lamarco Petty, Matthew Stewart and Solomon Afful inked a 13th place finish (41.38) to qualify for the men's college finals on Saturday afternoon.
In the 4x200 relay event, Adedamola, Torian, Petty and Afful inked a second place finish to qualify for the Championship Invitational hosted on Saturday. Simiarly, in the women's 4x200 relay, the squad of Abike Egbeniyi, Loveth Odia, Cecilia Francis, Edidiong Odiong claimed a seventh place finish to also qualify for the Championship Invitational.
The women's sprint medley championship relay rounded off the day with a fifth place finish with a time of 3:50.11 (Francis, Odiong, Assafuah, Egbeniyi).
The Blue Raiders will return to the track tomorrow morning to wrap up the Penn Relays.
