An all-around athlete who loved to play as much as to coach, Charlie Greer played end, halfback and tackle for Blue Raider football. He found his greatest success as a tackle and was honorable mention as a Little All-American as a senior. In baseball he was an outfielder and second baseman who signed with the Chicago Cubs and played two seasons in that organization.
In the late 1940s he coached in area high schools before returning to MT in 1949 as head basketball coach. In his seven seasons with the Blue Raiders, he developed teams that were fundamentally strong. After the 1955-56 season, he left collegiate coaching but continued to coach baseball in Nashville's youth leagues.
