- Class:
- 1939
In his first year of Blue Raider football, Charles Miller and his freshman squad were undefeated. They claimed the freshman SIAA championship, duplicating the title won that fall by their varsity counterparts. The Nashville, Tenn., native moved on to varsity play in 1936, making a name for himself as a halfback and kicker. When a back injury forced him to quit, he earned a reputation as a team player by becoming manager of the freshman team, returning to varsity status as a senior in 1938. From 1936-37 he also played MT basketball.
After graduation, he was an assistant coach at his high school alma mater, Isaac Litton in Nashville. There, he worked with future Blue Raider Hall of Famer, James "Jaybird" Hamblen. He coached at Columbia High School in Columbia, Tenn., enlisting in the Navy in 1942.
