A standout three-sport athlete, Charles Kerr lettered in football, basketball and baseball. After graduation, he coached at Forest High School in Chapel Hill, Tenn., taking the school's football team to an undefeated season. The team remained unscored on until the last quarter of its last game of the season.
He also worked at Columbia High School, Columbia, Tenn., and Cumberland College, Lebanon, Tenn. He was director of health and physical education for the Tennessee Department of Education. He later worked for the state's Adult Basic Education program and served a term as MT's national alumni association president.
