Emmett Kennon
- Induction:
- 1997
- Class:
- 1938
The 1930s were the beginning of a legacy in MT football and baseball and Emmett Kennon was there. A teammate of MT's coaching great Charles "Bubber" Murphy, the pair played together in the same football backfield. In baseball, Kennon roamed centerfield while Murphy held his ground at first base. Kennon left his mark on his alma mater, earning high praise from Murphy who declared, "Emmett was truly an outstanding athlete. He was always exactly where he was supposed to be and you could count on him to make the right play."
In his post-MT years, Kennon helped revive and reorganize the alumni lettermen's club, now called the Varsity Club, and was the group's president from 1993-94. His commitment to MT athletics led to the construction and generous support of the Rose and Emmett Kennon Sports Hall of Fame and to MT's new baseball stadium.
