Among MT's last three-sport standouts, Gerald "Mama" Johnson particularly excelled at baseball. His record of hitting .369 in 1950 is still regarded as one of the top season batting performances in Blue Raider baseball history.
An end in football, a forward in basketball and a first baseman in baseball, he went on to coach at high schools in Middle Tennessee, including Nashville Central, Maplewood, Brentwood and Father Ryan.
