Harry Gupton
- Induction:
- 2012
- Class:
- 1952
Harry Gupton was a tremendous two-sport athlete for the Blue Raiders from 1949 thru 1952, excelling in both basketball and baseball. A native of Old Hickory, Tenn., Gupton wasted no time in becoming a Blue Raider. As soon as he graduated from high school, he hitch-hiked to Murfreesboro to make sure he could play at MTSU. On the basketball court, he started at guard for all four years, although he missed all of one year with an injury.
Despite his career being limited to three years, Gupton became the second 1,000 point scorer in MTSU history, finishing his career with 1,154 points. In baseball, Gupton was a standout shortstop and was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds where he played one season at the Triple A level before being called to serve his country in Korea.
