Joe Nunley enrolled at MT in 1941 but his academic career and athletic opportunities were interrupted by military service in World War II. A highly successful high school coach before joining the MT faculty, he penned a poignant remembrance of MT during and after World War II years entitled "The Raider 40s."
Nunley was widely known for his ability as a writer and his favorite subject was the Blue Raiders. Although he loved all MT sports, he had a particular affection for baseball and was instrumental in starting the infamous baseball support group, the Railbirds.
